Sooner Trailer was founded in 1956 by Francis Cobb. The company didn't actually build trailers then, but the idea for constructing top quality devices for transporting animals began when someone needed a stock rack and Cobb agreed to build it for them. From these humble beginnings, Sooner Trailer grew under the ownership of the Bernhardt family of Duncan, Oklahoma to build premium quality custom aluminum trailers to meet the needs of the most discriminating and experienced buyer. Over the years, Sooner has continued to grow its range of products to build more than 2000 horse and livestock trailers each year. Sooner trailers are distributed across the United States via approximately 80 dealers located in 37 states and internationally via its dealerships located in 5 provinces of Canada.

Sooner Trailer became the newest member of the Universal Trailer family of brands in late 2003. It joined the Exiss trailers and Haulmark Trailers in a lineup of top quality trailers offering dependability and value to its customers.

Why Aluminum?

In 1983, Sooner was one of the first to begin building aluminum trailers. Why Aluminum? Aluminum trailers have become the trailers of choice for discriminating horse and livestock people. They are 30-40% lighter than a steel trailer and easier to pull which means improved gas mileage and less wear and tear on a vehicle. In addition, the aluminum used by Sooner Trailer engineers is pound for pound five times stronger than steel. Aluminum is corrosion resistant, so it is far less susceptible to deterioration due to weather conditions. In addition, they look great and will continue to look new long after steel trailers have rusted through.

Aluminum trailers are however, more expensive to build. Much of the aluminum comes in the form of extrusions, and each extrusion has to be blueprinted, so it requires a great deal of engineering. Sooner blueprints all its extrusions, and then an aluminum company mixes the alloys and extrudes it. These alloys have a wide variety of metals that provide the structural integrity that Sooner requires.

Since 1994, Exiss Aluminum Trailers, Inc. has revolutionized the industry by producing top-quality aluminum trailers at prices consumers can afford. Exiss builds a full line of gooseneck and bumper pull aluminum trailers for horses, livestock and automobile transportation, as well as specialty applications.

Before Exiss, aluminum trailers were expensive and primarily custom-made. Through innovative manufacturing techniques at its facilities in El Reno, Oklahoma, Exiss produces aluminum trailers with customized features. Plus, Exiss prices these high-quality units at 20 to 30 percent below competing aluminum trailers.

The revolutionary spirit at Exiss goes far beyond price. Its personnel, headed by Rodney Culp, have more than 30 years of experience in the trailer industry. This knowledge and experience has lead to a number of innovations in design.

Bison trailers have been recognized for their superior quality construction and appearance since 1984. Because of our dedication to producing the best quality product on the market, we are able to offer the best quality warranty around.

Bison trailers carry a 3-YEAR Structural Warranty, as well as a 3-YEAR Workmanship and Material Warranty. Bison also offers a FULL 1-YEAR Warranty on our exterior paint as opposed to most of our competitors who only offer 90-days.

Bison trailers feature only durable rubber torsion axles for a quality ride, which carry a 5-YEAR Warranty.

At Bison, we stand behind our product quality because we know the time, energy and effort that we put in to each and every model we produce. We also know that a happy customer will be a repeat customer, so we are committed to making you more than happy with your purchase.

A well-known industry brand – Miley’s legend returns to the marketplace. By acquiring the rights to the Miley name, Universal Trailer brings back to the marketplace a well-known product that has been historically recognized as a national name brand. With a reputation noted for quality, user-friendly features and dependability, the Miley brand will be UTC’s entry in a broad segment of retail price points.
Miley currently offers 2 and 3 horse slant load bumper pull trailers along with a 2 horse straight load model. Gooseneck models are also expected to be introduced in the near future making Miley a full-line product in the steel frame trailer category. The Miley brand has an aluminum floor design that adds durability and reliability while reducing overall trailer weight versus traditional wood floor competitors.

Added standard features of aluminum fenders, exterior sheeting and rubber torsion axles help round out the Miley as a solid value and help reinforce the rich heritage of the Miley nameplate.

Trails West horse trailers are constructed of high quality electro-galvanized steel that is far superior to aluminum in overall structural integrity. All metals have stress limits called yield strength and ultimate strength. When metal is stressed at a level below the yield strength, it will return to its normal shape after the stress is released. If the metal is stressed above its yield strength but below its ultimate strength, it will deform or bend but will not break. When stresses are applied that exceed a metal's ultimate strength, the metal will break.

When metals are repeatedly stressed or flexed, even at levels well below their yield limits, they often fail. This is known as fatigue failure. Ferrous metals such as steel possess another stress limit known as fatigue strength. When the stresses from repeated flexing are kept below this fatigue strength, steel will not fail regardless of the number of times the steel is flexed. Non-ferrous metals such as aluminum do not have fatigue strength: therefore, when aluminum is repeatedly flexed and stressed even at very low limits, it will eventually break. This is why aluminum trailers are reinforced with steel in critical areas, such as axle hangers, rear corners where gates hang, and hitch attachment points.

Properly engineered steel horse trailers are much stronger and more durable to the flex and stress caused by the road. Trails West uses properly prepared Electro-galvanized sheet steel with Dupont®. automotive primer and polyurethane paint, to produce a high quality, structurally superior horse trailer for less cost than aluminum trailers while providing the most value and wide range of options in the undustry.

A common misconception is that aluminum horse trailers weigh 40 to 50 percent less than steel trailers. A Trails West horse trailer is engineered to use heavier steel in high stress areas and lighter steel in lower stress areas. We use heavier wood in the floor area of the horse compartment while using lighter wood in the tack floor area. Trails West horse trailers are triple-wall constructed which protects the outside skin from damaging kicks coming from the horse area while providing a smooth sleek outside appearance. A triple-wall constructed Trails West horse trailer will typically weigh only 10 to 15 percent more than a comparably equipped aluminum trailer.

Trails West high-end steel horse trailers typically hold their value better than an aluminum trailer. A Trails West horse trailer will depreciate on average of 5.5% per year, with most of the depreciation being experienced during the first two years of the trailer's life.
Because of superior strength, greater paint durability, excellent towability, a wide variety of options, lower initial cost and high resale value compared to aluminum trailers, Trails West steel horse trailers are the best value in the industry today.

Haulmark Industries, Inc., is 100 percent committed to building value-driven, top-quality enclosed trailers for specialty applications and for hauling cargo, motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, show and antique cars as well as race cars.

Customer driven innovation, smart product designs and a focus on value fuel our steady growth and make us the preferred choice of demanding customers. In fact, between 2001 and 2003, we grew 25 percent in trailers sold. Yet, warranty claims remained at historically low levels.

This reflects the dependability, reliability and quality of our products. And with more than 460 dealers across the United States, you're sure to find a Haulmark dealer near you.

With corporate headquarters in Bristol, Ind., we've been producing enclosed trailers for more than 27 years. We have seven plants in six states, representing one million square feet of manufacturing space.
